Hey, I came across an article of yours in cricinfo.com, about Srinath and Kumble's batting in the Titan Cup in 1996. The six Srinath hit was off none other than Glenn McGrath, yessir, no less! It was a full toss at a nice height, and Srinath, nostrils flaring, took a huge backlift, and deposited it straight back over McGrath's head. Nice article!

I cringed after I read your article "I blame Kumble and Srinath" on Cricinfo Page 2. You do a good job on Mint, however, if you ask me -- you should stay away from writing anything about cricket. Here's why:

1. Sidin <in fact,="" if="" you="" ask="" me,="" one="" of="" the="" great="" injustices="" in="" indian="" cricket="" is="" that="" the="" one="" ball="" that="" srinath="" deserved="" to="" have="" bowled="" in="" his="" career="" was="" delivered="" by="" venkatesh="" prasad.="">

Sorry to break you heart, but Srinath had already delivered 'that' ball to none other than Javed Miandad in 1992 World Cup (he bowled Miandad with a fiendish yorker, by the way). That ball was special in many ways possible:

1. India and Pakistan's first meeting in a World Cup.
2. For God's sake it was MIANDAD's wicket --- Aamir Sohail is galaxies away from the league of Miandad. Of all the people in the world, we Indians know how much we love to hate Javed Miandad (yeah the same guy who hit the last ball six in that god forsaken place called Sharajah, and he who has the uncanny knack of getting under the opposition's skin). If I remember clearly, in this match too he was trying to get under Indian wicket keeper Kiran More's skin with his antics. So in way it was a big relief to see him out of the way.
3. The match was nicely balanced at that stage as Pakistan were chasing paltry India's 216. Miandad was still there and briefly threatened to take the match away from India before Srinath's fiendish yorker did him in. Vengeance was an understatement.

2. Sidin <"One billion people and you pick Joginder?!">
Agreed that he was not one of the best cricketers India were produced or will produce --- but he did his job to the T. More importantly, he hold on to his nerves, unlike many other Indian bowlers we know (the list is endless), against arch rivals Pakistan for whom every match is a Jihad. So give that poor guy some sort of respect, will ya?

Remember, Misabah was in red-hot form and had already hit Joginder for six (again on a Chetan Sharmaseque full- toss), and looked all set to be the new Miandad before Joginder fooled him with a full delivery and as the as the cliché goes...the rest is history.

As a writer myself, I thought your observations were poor, and you took away credit from players which they would like to believe were their best. That was not Srinath's first fiendish yorker or not his last. Joginder repeated his last over miracle again for Dhoni-led CSK, and might continue to do so.

I am wondering how did this article ever pass thru the vigilant eyes of Sambit Bal. Are you listening Cricinfo?

I will be a little different from all your fans and tell you that your style is slowly regressing-from smart satirical humor-towards the kind of humor found in Hindi Movies-repetitive, monotonous and tending more to slapstick. The brilliance of 'travails..' is clearly missing...Is writing for a newspaper affecting your style?
